If the 2022 election of Kaputiei North Ward was held today, Leonard Lemayian alias VJ Lemar would have beaten all his contenders.

A straw poll for popularity test among all the candidates who will participate in the 2022 election by Kajiado News Update indicates Lemayian is most popular.

Lemayian, 29, polled 204 votes out of 283 to score a straight 72.08 per cent, placing his nearest competitor, Denis Matinkoe, at only 14.84 per cent with 42 votes.

The incumbent, Joshua Olowuasa, got 35 votes (12.36 per cent) ahead of J. Mpayieyio, who managed 2 votes representing 0.70 per cent.

As we have indicated many times that straw poll is a scientific test of gauging issues, it may not be a 100 per cent indicator that the results are perfect.

On the other hand, the poll results have a strong indication that whoever leads in any test has an upper hand against the rest of the contenders.

Lemayian of UDA is a Bachelor of Business and Information Technology holder from JKUAT and an employee of the county government.

He works as a senior ICT revenue officer in Kajiado, and he is trying a hand in politics for the first time.

The results we have just received is a clear indication that the incumbent, Olowuasa, will have a hard time handling the likes of Lemayian and Matinkoe in that coming election.

Word has it that Olowuasa’s side celebrated the coming in of Matinkoe and there are allegations that the latter would divide the votes of the youth in his favour.

Whether those allegations have any basis, at the end of it all it will be the people of Kaputiei North who will decide if they will opt for a youthful leader or not.

“My leadership vision statement is to consistently lead with integrity, fairness, humility, clear and honest communication,” said Lemayian after winning in the popularity poll.

The upcoming politician says clanism and ethnicity filing will not be a factor in the 2022 general election in Kaputiei North but that “young blood” will triumph.

The soft-spoken politician says there are many issues that past and present politicians in the ward have neglected because of pettiness and issues related to clan issues.

“I am coming in as a visionary leader where every voter, regardless of his/her creed and association, will be considered among equals,” said Lemayian.

He said he will work closely with all the investors in Kaputiei North on matters of development, adding that all the investors in his ward deserve the support of his leadership.

“We need to work with them so we can secure jobs for our youth. Any kind of investment in this ward supports the economy. You cannot milk a cow that you are not caring for,” said the politician.

On the impassable Isinya-Konza road, Lemayian said it requires a permanent solution.

“If elected by the great people of Kaputiei North, I will ensure to work closely with other government leaders and ensure it is tarmacked,” added Lemayian.
