All the lighting systems put up under the Nairobi Metropolitan Service Improvement project to provide security for Kitengela residents have blacked out.
The project that was aimed at reducing crime by lighting dark alleys and areas that could hide criminals as well as lighting the streets has diminished after the county government failed to pay electricity bills.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Service Improvement programme handed over the completed lighting system to Kitengela, Isinya and Kiserian towns in the county but the devolved government failed in its responsibility.
They ceased operating normally after late 2017, and to date, the residents are wondering what became of the service.
It is now highly risky to walk in the three towns after 7 pm because of the increased insecurity threat.
