If a contest was held for the election of Kajiado governor was held today, Francis Meja would have won against Governor Joseph Lenku.

Meja scored 41.35 per cent (301 votes) against Lenku’s 36.95 per cent representing 269 votes.

Some 728 people resident in Kajiado were sampled in the 48-hour poll.

Peris Tobiko came in third with 7.69 per cent (56 votes), followed by David Nkedianye (former governor) who garnered 6.87 per cent (50 votes).

Katoo Metito scored 6.32 per cent (46 votes) while former Olkejuado county council chairman came in 6th with 0.82 per cent representing 6 votes.

The KNU- sponsored Strawpoll popularity test was shared across popular county blogs and featured six candidates who have shown interest in running for governor.

A simple question was asked those who participated – “If an election of the governor of Kajiado County is held today, whom would you prefer from the list below?”

The poll was posted on March 10 at 6.45 PM and ran to March 12 at 6.45 PM. During the exercise, polling more than once was denied.

Such polls, in most cases, reflect about 80 per cent of the truth on the ground. The sponsor of the poll did not talk to any of the candidates about the exercise.

This is the second poll KNU has run from July last year, and it will continue to do many such for the senate, parliamentary and other political seats.

In that poll, Lenku beat Meja by a low margin.

At KNU, we believe that the voters should be kept abreast of what is going on in county politics because they have the power to reject and vote for their leaders.

Because Strawpoll is a digital process, we are not in a position to explain why those who participated in it voted in a certain way.
