The county’s opposition team held a private meeting in Iloodokilani on Sunday to plan Governor Joseph ole Lenku’s ouster bid in 2022.
“It is true I hosted former governor David Nkedianye, MP Peris Tobiko, politician Francis Meja at my village home in Maili 46 to discuss various issues touching on the current county’s leadership and the way forward,” said Kores on Sunday night.
On his FaceBook account, Kores had indicated the meeting was about “consultation and consolidation” of issues in the home county.
Unity Of Purpose
“We discussed among many, the unity of purpose and the way forward for our great county. Others who joined us were; Samuel ole Moinket, Councillor Moses ole Moiko and former MCA Nathan Sinkeet,” said Kores.
Kores later said on the phone the main agenda of the meeting was “how to bring down Lenku in 2022” and to front President Uhuru Kenyatta’s and Raila Odinga’s agenda in taking the country forward, now and after that election year.
“In other words, what we did today was to look at what is our stumbling block to taking over leadership at home ahead of 2022 general election, which is, of course, this governor Lenku,” said Kores.
He went on: “The other issue is how we will tame Tanga Tanga elements in this county ahead of next general election.”
But even as Kores met his opposition brigade members at his Maili 46 home, Governor Lenku was said to be more concerned about his headache to contain the spread of coronavirus disease, whose spread is threatening the livelihood of Kajiado people.
In the recent past, Lenku’s county COVID-19 team that is charged with ensuring that no one goes hungry during this pandemic is visiting every corner of the region and distributing hundreds of kilos of food items.
Political pundits are now claiming the COVID-19 pandemic has put Lenku in a more strategic position, politically, as he is closer to his people than before.
When we caught up with the governor to confirm or demystify the common theory, now, of the pandemic and his 2022 political-link agenda, Lenku only said; “You cannot stop people from talking. I am more concerned, most, with the livelihoods of the people of Kajiado. We cannot connect the lives of people with the advent of this pandemic and politics.”
Lenku said as much as he knows, the people of Kajiado are more concerned now about their lives pegged on development agenda. They need water, hospitals, and good roads.
“We are more than ready to face those opposed to the good work that we are doing for our people. They better come up with better ideas agenda than just removing Lenku. If that is their only agenda to remove me, then they better go and sleep and allow me space to serve those who elected me,” said Lenku on the phone.
Shopping For Opposition Candidate
Kores admitted the opposition is still shopping for their flagbearer for the top county seat in 2022.
“It can be Tobiko, Nkedianye, Meja, or even me. Anyone of us has the capacity to face Lenku. It is only a matter of time that we will come up with a candidate out of us or from outside this ring,” added Kores.
This is happening as rumours are rife that Lenku is more prepared than before to launch his re-election bid in the next year.
It is claimed that Governor Lenku is putting up a formidable campaign team, complete with work stations across the region.
Those With Eyes Will See
When asked about the claims, Lenku laughed off the idea and only said; “those with eyes are yet to see, and those with ears, will definitely hear.”
Kores said after they are through with the “Kajiado agenda”, his team will busy itself with national Maa agenda ahead of 2022 general election and beyond.
“We want to ensure for the president and Raila that proponents of Tanga Tanga movement will never rule this country,” said Kores.
He said after they are through with Kajiado, his team will proceed to all Maa counties across the country to “sell the ideas of Kenyatta and Raila”.
