Kajiado politician, Joshua Olowuasa, on Tuesday, waived two months’ rent on his 75 houses in Isinya town and surrendered Sh700,000.
Olowuasa, who the Kaputiei North MCA, while waiving the rent said he decided to do so to cushion his customers from the economic effects caused by Coronavirus pandemic.
“Today, I have decided to waive your rent for two months, April and May, so that you can use the little you have to buy food for your families,” said the MCA when he addressed his tenants at Olowuasa Estate in Isinya town.
The MCA said he receives Sh350, 000 every month from his estate houses and the decision to waive the rent was reached between members of his family.
“I sat with my wife and children last night and agreed together that because you have been loyal to me for all those years, it was befitting to waive your rent for two months,” said the politician.
He advised his tenants to maintain their social distancing and wash their hands in a bid to keep off from the infectious disease.
The MCA becomes the first landlord in the county to waive rental fees for his tenants. He appealed to others to follow suit if they can.
“I find this to be a noble cause to surrender Sh700,000 to others in society. Others who are a position to do the same should follow suit. There are many people out there who cannot even afford a meal during this time the country is grappling what to do with this disease,” said Olowuasa.
