Kajiado police on Thursday said two county employees will be arraigned causing the death of two people on Friday last week.
Kajiado Central Sub-County Police Commander, Daudi Lornyokwe said investigations are complete against a driver and a nurse, both county government workers, and would be arraigned on Friday.
Lornyokwe said the two will be charged with negligence that led to the death of a patient and his mother.
The two had been instructed to pick a sick child from a private clinic at Bissil town on Friday last week but the nurse allegedly sat with the driver after picking the patient, his mother, and another relative.
Lornyokwe claimed while the ambulance was on its way to a county referral hospital in Kajiado town, the patient died in the hands of his mother at Bull’s Eye shopping centre.
He said attempts by the woman to call for help from the nurse as her child was dying hit a dead end as the ambulance sped to Kajiado town.
“After making all the attempts, the child died and so the woman in the process decided to commit suicide by jumping out of the speeding ambulance,” said the police boss.
It is claimed the driver was stopped by other motorists as it approached Kumpa shopping centre, and told a woman had jumped out of his car some 12 km back.
When the driver went back to pick the woman, she had already suffered multiple injuries. She was admitted to the county referral hospital, while her dead child was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
She later succumbed to injuries on Saturday. The nurse and the driver were suspended on Monday after the county health department reviewed their case.
Police released the county ambulance vehicle on Wednesday evening after undergoing inspection.
