Police in Kajiado on Sunday on Sunday night said they have launched an investigation into lost officer’s gun who was involved in a road accident.
Constable Kamau is said to have been drinking at a popular spot on Saturday night into the wee hours of Sunday when he and another officer drove home in a police car in the company of two women.
Eyewitnesses said the car the officers were driving in lost control near Kajiado Central Police Station and hit an electric power pole before rolling at 3 am on Sunday.
This information was confirmed by Kajiado Central Sub County commander, Issa Mohamud, who said it is true the police officer realised after the accident that he had no gun.
“We have already involved DCI officers and have arrested three suspects, who were among the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident. They will help us get to the bottom of this,” said Mohamud,
Investigators are expected to find out under what circumstances was given a gun and a police official car on Saturday night, and why the two officers drunk in bars while in possession of a lethal weapon.
Mohamud said that once investigation are complete, they will take in the suspect (the police officer who lost the gun) and will be punished “appropriately”.
He said all the four occupants in the police car were treated and discharged from the county referral hospital in Kajiado town.
