Tanzanian Charged With Causing Deaths Through Dangerous Driving

CAPTION: Masoud Abdalla was arraigned in court on May 3 in Kajiado.

A bus driver who caused the death of two Kenyans on Wednesday night along Namanga road was on Friday charged in court with a dangerous driving offence.

Masoud Abdallah, a Tanzanian national, appeared before principal magistrate, Edwin Mulochi at Kajiado court and pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution said that on May 1, Abdallah drove a passenger bus registration number KCN 074X in a manner which was dangerous to the public, and which is contrary to Section 46 of the Traffic CAP 403 Laws of Kenya.

Abdallah, the prosecution further said, caused the death of Cosmas Mata Wahome and Mutinda Wambua which he could have avoided had he adhered to traffic rules.

The two were passengers on a motorbike that was heading in a different direction, while the bus was headed to Namanga border town on its way to Arusha, Tanzania.

On pleading not guilty, Abdallah was asked to deposit a cash bail of Sh500, 000 and a surety of similar amount from a Kenyan national.

The case will be mentioned on May 16, while Mulochi fixed its hearing for July 3.
