Kajiado Blogger, Obama Matampash, has vowed not to relent in his push for sound, proper governance in the county even when out of the country.
Matampash, who claims he has cut a niche for literally taking the bull by the horns while confronting agents of impunity and fighting for the public interest, has alluded to several instances when he received threats to his life for speaking against mismanagement of public affairs in the county.
This is after a senior politician in Kajiado allegedly threatened to “shut” him up.
Matampash who mostly blogs in Kajiado North constituency called Kajiado News Update Online to break his silence over what he claims has been a threat to his life.
He, however, said no amount of intimidation will dampen his spirit in his quest to seek justice the voters and defend their right to access resources in a devolved Kajiado.
“My problem with my tormentor begun early this year after I did several stories touching on the mismanagement of public resources in Kajiado which was ubiquitous in virtually every sector,” said Matampash on the phone.
The blogger said corruption has permeated every department and that immediately he published several critical stories, he was sent some goons twice to his house in February but luckily, he escaped.
He claims that prior to the last general election, and later last year he was threatened twice by the same person he claims to have given his details to Kitengela Police Station.
“I recorded a statement in Kitengela Police Station and told the officers everything as regards what my tormentor said,” added Obama
He claims the said politician, he did not want to name, warned that he would ensure he is 6 feet under for publishing ‘unpleasant’ stories against him and his administration.
He also claimed he once reported the politician to CID headquarters in Gigiri, where his alleged tormentor was called to record the statement.
“He was warned that if anything happens to me, he would be held responsible,” said Matampash.
Matampash is currently out of the country and reliable sources intimate that he is scheduled to meet a cross-section of human rights activists and will attend a litany of symposia and conferences whose thematic areas are governance, democracy, effective lobbying, advocacy, and Strategy.
When he talked to us he could not disclose which country he is touring.
He said; “Even as I leave the country, I want to make it clear that I cannot be silenced in fighting for justice for the people of Kajiado North, and the county as a whole. I will continue criticising those leaders who do not deliver.”
Matampash was categorical that threats on his life became real after he raised issues about employment in Kajiado North constituency which he says is shrouded in nepotism, patronage, favoritism, discrimination and at worst tribalism.
“This is a cosmopolitan constituency with the face of Kenya and all the people living there should be considered for job opportunities instead of sideling others, no group is special than the other, we have no second class citizens in Kajiado. All are equal” he said
He says he will unequivocally, without fear or favour, continue exposing the rot in the constituency until the people are served justice in the provision of services and equity in employment opportunities.
“These conveyor belts of impunity, backwardness and retrogressive politics based on tribalism should know from now on that I shall not be cajoled nor petrified in dealing with them. We shall all fight to sanitize the county as I return with a bang,” he concluded.
