Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has split the Finance Department in a new reform move to closely monitor revenue collection.
He has transferred the Revenue Department from the Finance Department to be an autonomous unit.
The restructuring will enable him have control of the revenue collection and utilization following pilferage of cash by some unscrupulous County staff who were colluding with some business people.
Speaking after a Full Cabinet Meeting in Kajiado town, the governor said the new revenue unit will be headed by a senior director who will directly report to him.
“We want to seal the loopholes that have made us fail to realise the full potential of the county. We are still pursuing our target of Sh1.5 billion annual revenue collections to enable us give the necessary services, said the governor.
He asked investors to pay up any pending rate arrears to avoid clamping like it happened with Tata Chemicals Ltd.
