An officer serving at Kitengela Police Station was on Monday arraigned in court to answer a charge of alleged shooting of his colleague to death.
PC Peter Maingi was arraigned in Kajiado Court.
The police charge sheet read in court said PC Peter Maingi, while in possession of a government pistol, shot PC Peter Upsaye in the head killing him instantly on Sunday morning within Kitengela.
While appearing before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, counsel for the accused, Kevin Turunga, told the court claimed the cause of the deceased death is unknown and requested the magistrate to allow more time for investigations.
Turunga urged Shitubi to release his client as the police carry out further investigations.
Magistrate Shitubi consented to defense lawyer’s request without the suspect taking any plea to the charge preferred by prosecution on him.
Without fixing a date of hearing of the case, Shitubi only said the case will be heard as soon as the police complete investigations.
Earlier, the suspect walked to the court on his own and after the direction from the magistrate, he walked away the way he came in.
The incident that caused the death of the police officer occurred on September 15 in Kitengela town where the police claim the accused mistakenly fired a bullet from his pistol that went through the head of fellow officer.
