A former Nation Media Group journalist Mbugua Ngunjiri is nursing wounds after bandits raided him at his Kitengela residence in Kajiado.
Estates in Kitengela’s Milimani area and the attack happened around here last Saturday.
Ngunjiri on Tuesday evening told the Star he was attacked on Saturday night at his Mlimani home in Kitengela while he was in company of wife and children.
“They attacked our house at around midnight. They carried away anything of value they could land their hands on. Luckily, the kids slept through the whole ordeal,” said the victim.
The journalist, who was treated and discharged from Kitengela Medical Hospital, said he suffered a cut on the head and ankle after he was hit with a blunt object.
“They came in through the kitchen door which was, apparently, not locked as we watched TV with my wife in the living room. I only noticed too late that we were in danger and before I could open my mouth I was hit on the head with a heavy metallic object,” said Ngunjiri after recording a further statement at Kitengela police station.
The journalist said the thugs collected valuables from the house before going for his mobiles phones and that of his wife.
“When we thought they are through with us, one came back and demanded I produce money if I want to live and see my children grow,” said Ngunjiri, who received eight stitches on his head.
He said he attempted to explain to the three raiders that he has been out of employment for a long time, but they would not hear anything.
“They took the little money I had in the house and from my Mpesa after asking for my pin. They proceeded to borrow Sh3, 000 from MShwari. I have never borrowed money from Mshwari but I qualified for Sh. 3, 000,” said the journalist.
The police said they are investigating the matter and appealed to residents of Kitengela to report suspicious people whose movement and intention are suspect.
