Court Gags State, Stops it from Hiking Fuel Prices as its Shortage Bites

A Kisumu Judge has temporarily blocked Kenya Revenue authority and Energy Regulatory Commission from increasing petroleum product prices.

Temporary Order Issued In Kisumu.

Justice S N Riechi gave a mention date for a petition filed by three civilians; Titus Tila, Jackline Otieno and Francis in Kisumu and fixed it on September 12.

Riechi’s temporary conservatory automatically quashed the decision by KRA and ERC dated September 1 to implement the Finance Act (VAT) 2013.

The said Act had given government powers to levy 16 per cent on petroleum products to enable President Uhuru Kenyatta to assent or reject the amended Finance Bill passed by Parliament.

The ruling came on the heels of an imminent shortage of petrol across the county caused by striking transporters over high prices of the commodity.
