Kajiado Assembly has today rejected in totality a list of county beaders nominated by CECM Jackline Koin on Ushanga Kenya Initiative beneficiaries.
The action follows a heated debate between the county Trade Minister and the MCAs on Tuesday regarding claims the list was ‘manipulated’ and ‘doctored’ allegedly to include civil servants against the norms.
The House Committee on Trade grilled Koin for several hours on Tuesday in what appeared to be a bid to question some of the members included in the benefactor list.
In today’s submission by the committee, the list was rejected in its entirety after members claimed the process of selecting the women groups was allegedly ‘partisan’ and a notable number came from the same locality.
The House committee chaired by Majority Leader, Julius Moipaai, said it allegedly ‘discovered was not authentic as it lacked signatures of official stamps’.
“The committee noted that some names had been listed against Wards where they should not belong, and hence the list was not representative,” said the final report availed to KNU.
The report said upon engagement with the CECM, and upon having considered the findings, the committee recommended that the final list forwarded to the Ushanga Kenya Steering Committee by the department of Trade be revoked forthwith.
It further recommended that the department undertakes a significant mapping of beneficiaries to the initiative in all the sub counties.
Finally, the House recommended that in undertaking and implementing the programme, the department initiates meaningful stakeholder engagement.
