County Minister for Health Esther Somoire on Thursday said access to universal health for all the people in the county is a basic human rights.
Somoire said the county government through the department of medical services, public health and sanitation is accelerating achievement to access of universal health coverage in the region.
She said advocacy, communication and social mobilization strategy for demand creation for social protection is a critical component in the implementation of universal health care in the county.
The minister was speaking during the commissioning of National Hospital Insurance Fund in the county at Ng’atataek Health Centre, in Kajiado Central on Thursday May 10.
Somoire said the commissioning in Ng’atataek entailed actual registration of clients to NHIF as well as transitioning the upgrading of the local dispensary to a health centre as part of quality improvement of health services in the county.
The governor, Joseph ole Lenku was the guest of honour during the occasion that also saw the upgrading of Ng’atataek dispensary to a health centre.
Lenku said more nurses and clinical officers will be posted to the facility which now acts as a referral medical centre for the larger Matapato region in Kajiado Central.
The county health minister said the upgrading of of the facility will help decongest Kajiado County referral hospital that is now handling many complicated health issues from all the sub counties in the region.
Plans are also underway to put up a sub county headquarters in Ng’atataek, according to county commissioner David Kipkemei.
