Residents of Mashuuru town in Kajiado are literally marooned in flood waters after several rivers that surround it burst their banks.

The three roads that exit the town have been cut off by rain floods as farm produce such as tomatoes continue to rot in the farms.
Six canter trucks ferrying tomatoes to Sultan Hamud, Salama and Kajiado towns have been stuck on the roads for the last five days.
Area deputy county commissioner, Stephen Nyakundi said on Monday the situation is dire as food shortage has began to bite.
“As we speak now, wananchi cannot be able to move patients with complications to other facilities outside the town. Relief food cannot be able to reach here because of the bad state of the roads,” he said on phone.
Nyakundi appealed to the county and national government to organize military planes to drop food items in Mashuuru.
As Nyakundi was still talking to KNU, he received information that Olkeri River had burst its banks and several livestock were spotted being carried away in the floods.
“I have never seen this kind of disaster in many years of my working experience. The rains have virtually pounded all over. I am appealing to motorists who are not familiar with the terrains around the sub county to avoid driving on these unpredictable roads,” said the DCC.
