A Kenya Railway engineer attached to section one of the standard gauge railway at Embulmbul station, Kajiado, was attacked and seriously wounded on Friday.
Engineer Michael Marona found himself on the receiving end when the Chinese worker caught him taking pictures of the Embulmbul site.
A senior police officer attached to the project, who witnessed the attack late evening on Friday said the Chinese first asked the KR official to identify himself, and when he did, he was kicked all over his body.
“I had to call for enforcement to help in saving the engineer, who within seconds was unconscious,” said the officer who declined to give his name.
Another eye witness, Henry Kinuthia who first called the Star as the Chinese was attacking Marona, said the KR engineer had positively identified himself but the Chinese would not understand that the person he was attacking was a government official.
Police were immediately called to assist in arresting the Chinese. He was immediately arrested and handcuffed before being thrown to the back of the police vehicle.
On reaching Ngong police station, the Chinese was locked in the cells but before the handcuffs were unlocked.
The arresting officer said the handcuff key had broken inside the cuffs and could not be opened immediately as they sought ways to break it open.
Meanwhile, in the cells, the Chinese was heard screaming and saying the handcuffs were hurting him.
As we went to press the Chinese was still screaming at Ngong police station.
