ephants estimated to be in herd of more than 70 jumbos.

But before they could attack the first bull said to be leading the herd in destroying crops and other vegetation in people’s farms, Mashuuru deputy county commissioner, Stephen Nyakundi pleaded with them against doing so.

Nyakundi managed to convince the morans against attacking the elephants but with a condition from the local men, who said they would only give Kenya Wildlife Service two days to drive the jumbos back to Amboseli national park.

The invaded area in Imbuko Location is on the border of Amboseli and the Tsavo national parks.

Nyakundi said he agreed with the local people that elephants from the two national parks had caused damage to property and were a threat to humans.

“When the schools are open like now, these elephants can be very dangerous to our children. The KWS have agreed to drive the jumbos in the next two days failure to which the morans said they will kill all of them,” said Nyakundi.

The DCC caught up with the morans while they were in the forest the elephants following chronic menace caused by the jumbos.

The morans argued that they were forced to take the law into their hands after the KWS failed to respond in real time.

Our spot check revealed the KWS officials started arriving in Imbuko location in the afternoon of Friday to start the exercise, which might require helicopters so as to beat the time given by the morans.

Several people have also complained of elephants’ invasion around Suntan Hills, Merrueshi and in some farms near Emali town. All those areas mentioned are in Kenyewa-Poka ward in Kajiado East constituency.
