Ongata Rongai Tortured Woman Succumbs To Injuries

A woman who was tied and burnt by her husband on Friday last week has succumbed to burns at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Salome Kanini, Ongata Rongai OCPD Silas Ringera said on Thursday, died at the hospital on Wednesday.

Her husband, Stanley Nduati, a PSV driver on Kiserian-Nairobi route, is alleged to have separated with her wife in October last year and had called her to collect money for their child’s uniform in Ongata Rongai where he has rented a house.

Police said the woman was living with her mother in Kiserian and when she was called to collect the money, she requested her brother to accompany her to Ongata Rongai.

On arrival at his house, Nduati is alleged to have pulled the woman into the house and locked the door from inside. When the woman’s brother attempted to open the house through a hole on the door, he was stubbed with a knife severally, Ringera said.

Ringera said the man is suspected to have tied his estranged wife before setting her on fire in his house.

“When he was still struggling with the woman in the house, the brother of the deceased called for assistance from the public, who rushed to rescue her. When he realised that people had began to gather outside as others broke through the window, the suspect opened the door and escaped,” said Ringera.

The police said the suspect went to hide in another house for fear of being lynched by public. Police later arrested him and arraigned him at Ngong court for attempted murder as a holding charge.

He is now going to be charged with murder, the police said.

The woman, the police said, suffered 80 per cent burns and doctors were unable to save her. She left behind two children; one of them is still suckling.

Residents of Ongata Rongai received the news of her death yesterday morning and were still trying to come to terms with the damning news.
