The government has created an extra sub district in Kajiado County to make seven the total national administrative units.

Interior CS, Joseph Nkaissery, has announced that the new sub district headquarters to be named Keek-Onyokie will be carved out of the larger Kajiado West sub county.

Nkaissery said its headquarters will be in Olepolos town, while the current one will remain in Iloodokilani Maili 46 town.

He said the decision by the government was informed by the distance between the two towns which had compelled the area deputy county commissioner, William ole Kakimoi, to divide his working days so as to sufficiently serve the region.

Local leaders in Kajiado West led by politician, Joseph ole Simel in a meeting with governor David Nkedianye had complained that  the DCC could be absent from office for two weeks.

During the meeting held in Maili 46 town, two weeks ago, which was also attended by the area MP, Moses Sakuda, the leaders explained they were dissatisfied by the DCC because of absenteeism from office.

Sakuda came to the rescue of the administrator by explaining that he divided his month into two so as he could sit in Maili 46 for 14 days and the remaining days he could serve from Olepolos.

Nkaissery’s disclosure on Monday that the government has finally established a new administration unit in Kajiado West constituency received with a rapturous welcome from the people of the constituency yesterday morning.

Sakuda called Kajiado News Update to thank the government for such gesture that has just come ahead of the general elections, adding that he has been in forefront campaigning for the creation of a new administration unit.

“My people have been suffering for many years from accessing government services because of the bad terrain and roads. Some people travelled more than 120 km, with a lot of trouble, to reach the current headquarters in Maili 46. We are happy that the government has heard our cries,” said Sakuda on the phone.

Nkaissery had tipped the people of Kajiado West that “something good is coming for you” on Saturday, last week while in Birrika town as he campaigned for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His announcement came to fruition on Monday when he said all the arrangements had been made to post a new DCC to Keek-Onyokie.

There are six existing sub counties in Kajiado County with their administration headquarters in Kajiado, Isinya, Ngong, Loitokitok, Mashuuru and Maili 46 towns under one county commissioner, Kello Harsama.
