A Nairobi-bound bus from Tanzania killed one herder and 25 cows, and injured three other herders on the Namanga-Athi River road on Thursday night.
The accident occurred near Kumpa shopping market, between Kajiado and Bissil towns.
Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye and county executives who were using the road took the injured to Kajiado County Referral Hospital. Nkedianye described the accident as “unfortunate” and warned motorists against speeding as pastoralists use the road.

Witnesses said the bus belonging to Dar Lux Company was speeding.
“The driver of the bus was unable to stop when he saw the livestock crossing the road and instead ran through [the herd] killing one person and 25 cows on the spot,” Lenku Ntauti said.
He said many buses from Tanzania have been involved in accidents near the same spot. “We have complained to the police but no action has been taken against the rogue drivers who use the road at night. No traffic police officers operate at night,” Ntauti said.
