Four children of ages between 2 and 5 died in Kiserian town, Kajiado County, today (Thursday) after a fire consumed three houses at midday.

Kajiado North OCPD, George Seda, confirmed the deaths and said the four children were in their homes in a gated estate when the fire broke out.

The houses which are situated at the junction of Kiserian/Isinya/Magadi road, according to Seda, caught fire after an electric short circuit occurred while the owners were out of the estate.

Eye witnesses said some of the children had been left alone by their handlers and parents and as confusion reigned, they were all burnt.

A senior official from Kajiado County government in charge of fire fighting, Timothy Mosopir, said the fire broke out at midday and spread over three houses.
“It was caused by an electric short on the main power line to the estate,” said Mosopir.

The dead children were moved to Nairobi City mortuary by the police
