A woman in her late 20s received first aid at Loitokitok Sub County referral hospital today after drinking poison to protest against her denied conjugal rights.
The woman, (name withheld), had been visited by  her Mombasa-based husband on Saturday evening but soon on arrival, a call from his boss demanded he reports to work immediately.

The husband immediately left without saying a word as his wife broke down and lamented that she would not live hopelessly without accessing her conjugal rights.

There was drama at the hospital when her relatives arrived with her only to find out that doctors were still on strike.

It took the efforts support staff at the hospital to administer the woman with neutralizers as they made arrangement to transfer her to a private hospital.

A source at the facility told KNU that there were two other similar cases at the hospital in the last two weeks.

A woman at the hospital, who was part of the witnesses, was heard lamenting that “most men have failed in their duties”.
