Woman MP Race Gets Hotter as April Party Primaries Draws Closer


Residents of Iloodokilani Ward have endorsed politician Esther Somoire to vie for County Woman MP seat.

Somoire, who arrived in Oltepesi area of the Ward on Sunday in a meet the people tour, received an emotional welcome from the local voters.

The electorate in the area swore to support their ‘daughter’ to the ballot in the ODM primaries in April.

A local elder, Francis Tuke, Somoire’s rally in Oltepesi, the people of Iloodokilani have long decided to back her after making their decision for the support of Governor David Nkedianye.

Another aspirant, Lucy Ndilai, who is vying for the same seat was also present during the rally and was accorded a chance to sell her candidature.

Others in the race for the seat are Purity Sein (JP), Leah Kiparki (JP), Leah Sopiato (JP), Caroline Letura (ODM) and Simayiai Rakita (ODM).

Rakita, who has been allegedly pressing for a direct nomination in the party, recently received a bashing from the national party’s chairperson of election board, Judy Pareno.

Pareno, during a reconciliation meeting with Rakita and Ndilai at Nini Mall, Kitengela, said no candidate will be favoured in any way.

Rakita has been unstable in the party ever since the entry of other candidates, and recently announced she had moved to Wiper Party of Kalonzo Musyoka.

Party nomination exercise for the position of women rep by various parties is expected to be stormy in April.

Already, storm is being witnessed within ODM and it is only a matter of time before we see the weak ones fall by the road sides.

Nkedianye is alleged to be behind the scenes working with local party bigwigs to ensure ODM gets a powerful candidate to face JP in the August general elections.
